# Choosing the right Mac for NotchNook

NotchNook runs on macOS 14.6 or later, on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs. You can use it on a Mac with a notch, a notchless display or an [external monitor](https://locafe.app/journal/notchnook-on-two-displays/).

## Check the system before the hardware shape

Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac to see the macOS version and the Mac’s processor or chip. The current download page is the reference for the application’s system requirement.

A physical notch is not a requirement. On screens without one, NotchNook provides a slim handle at the top that opens the same Nook. This lets you evaluate it on an iMac, a notchless MacBook or a display connected to your laptop.

- macOS: 14.6 or later, as listed on the current download page.
- Processor: Apple silicon or Intel; the download is a universal build.
- Display: a physical notch is optional; notchless screens use a top-edge handle.

## Test the displays you actually use

A laptop on its own and a laptop connected to a desk display are different working arrangements. During the trial, open the Nook on the screens you use and check that its location is comfortable alongside your menu bar and full-screen work.

If your day moves between desks, make that part of the trial. The important question is whether opening the panel feels consistent in your normal setup.

## Finish with the tools you need

Play music from your normal app, check a calendar event and place a working file in the Tray. These checks are more informative than looking only at the app icon or a screenshot.

If something is not behaving as expected, note your Mac model, macOS version, NotchNook version and display arrangement when [writing to support](https://locafe.app/journal/a-useful-notchnook-support-report/). Those details help identify the scenario without a long exchange of guesses.
