Exploring Winston’s source code and project history

Winston’s public repository is the starting point for its source code and development history. A short tour begins with the README, the Xcode project and the branch used for contributions.

Begin with the project map

The README describes Winston as a native Reddit client written in Swift and SwiftUI. The repository contains winston.xcodeproj, the application source, localization resources and project files. Its documented minimum requirement is iOS 17.

Read the current README before making a local change. It gives the project’s destinations and avoids treating an older instruction or screenshot as the current contribution guide.

  • README.md: project overview and contribution instructions.
  • winston.xcodeproj: the Xcode project.
  • winston/: application source.
  • Localizable.xcstrings: localization resources.
  • LICENSE.md: the GPL-3.0 license supplied with the project.

Follow the development path

The README directs code contributions to the alpha branch and asks for a pull request describing the change. A bug report or feature proposal can begin as an issue.

For a useful first contribution, choose a bounded observation: one screen, one interaction, a localization improvement or a reproducible bug. Explain the expected and actual result, and include a screenshot when the change is visual.

Keep releases and history in context

The repository preserves original version tags and historical IPA releases, including v1.1.5 from June 24, 2024. Those releases belong to the project’s history; use the README and release descriptions when exploring them.

The GPL-3.0 license file and contributor history remain with the project. The lo.cafe Winston page provides original interface screenshots and a product introduction, while company and press contacts are available on locafe.app.
